Nate Simons leads Blue Heron Ministries, a conservation nonprofit Indiana focused on restoring the natural wetlands by cultivating the native plant species of the area. Through stewarding our natural resources, Nate has the opportunity to share the wonder of God with the people who engage in service projects.
Bringing a vision to reality is not always a smooth path, and the way forward often has twists, turns, ruts, failures, and for those who persevere, sometimes it blossoms into being. Nate’s path involved all of these, and yet his call was very clear, even though he did not fully know how it would be fulfilled.
People participate in conservation ecology projects in the context of community. The organization is comprised of both paid and volunteer staff, and there is room for people of all ages, from infants in carriers and small children alongside their parents, to older adults. All participants get to enjoy the beauty of creation and the complexity of our ecosystems, and the glory of what God is doing in His creation.
Nate shares his love for God’s creation and his love for people so gently and authentically. I have to believe that anyone who works alongside of Nate sees his love for God come through in a very gentle and genuine way. You can just hear it in his voice!
